All about Fifa 20

A lot of Year 6 are playing this game at the moment - please take some time to read a bit more about it to help you know exactly what is involved.

This week's learning

This week´s learning:

• Vocabulary uplevelling and expansion in preparation for writing
• Writing of a description of the machine in ´The Alchemist´s Letter´, using the DADWAVERS (description, adverbial, dialogue, where, action, verb, estimation of time, rhetorical question, simile/ metaphor) technique.  Plus application of relative clauses.
• Editing of writing
• Use of semi-colons
• Reading of HOLES
• Reading comprehension of ´Dream Team´by Frances Nagle poem, introducing the APE (Answer it, Prove it, Explain it) technique for 2 and 3 mark questions.
• Spelling pattern- silent l and m

Homework:

• Read to p 54 of HOLES for Monday
• The Giantess poem for Weds (use APE sheet to help)
• Spelling pattern- silent l and m (practice on spelling frame)

Maths

• Simplifying fractions by finding the common factors
• Comparing fractions by finding a common denominator.
• Comparing fractions by finding a common numerator.
• Adding and subtracting fractions including mixed numbers.

Amazing Americas!

To launch our project on The Amazing Americas, Mr Dan came to talk to us about where he is from- The USA.  He taught us a lot about the geographical and historical features of his hometown, Philadelphia.  Thanks Mr Dan!

It can be handwritten or typed and illustrated if you wish.

Entries need to be submitted to your teacher by

Monday 20^th January 2020 

These will then be entered into a BSGC competition- a winner and a runner- up will be chosen from Key Stage 2!

The teachers will then choose from these winners to be entered into the main COBIS competition.
